My work is an ongoing exploration into our unique native Texas landscape and our big ever-changing skies. As the only part of the landscape that is always animated, our beautiful skies offer a new subject moment to moment, day to night. They are a reminder that we are a small part of this much larger world.
My objective in this work is to convey the beauty, complexities, depth, and movement of our skies, and to also illustrate the rustic beauty of the unique native plants and landscape that surround me in Texas.
I paint in oil using lively color, contrast, pattern, and texture. I use a mixture of application materials including synthetic and hog hair brushes, dry rags, and a range of palette knives. The work ranges from intimate compositions on linen panel to vast and more layered paintings on stretched canvas, as well as limited edition reproductions on archival fine art paper.
I am trained as a designer and my love of color, pattern and composition are evident in my work. I started painting in college, admiring the work of friends who were studying in the Fine Art program. I graduated from The University of Cincinnati (college of Design, Architecture, Art, & Planning) with a degree in Fashion Design. I worked for 10 years in the industry, including 8 years in New York with Ralph Lauren. I left to care for my twins that were born 10 weeks early. While at home, I started painting again… and never stopped.
I’m a native of Cleveland, Ohio and have been a Texan for 14 years. There were many states in-between, but - as they say, I got here as soon as I could!
